Lukáš Klánský

Lukáš Klánský is a Czech pianist, chamber musician and teacher. Alongside his solo career, chamber music and conducting from the piano form important parts of his artistic work. He is a member of the Lobkowicz Trio and teaches at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) and the Prague Conservatory.

Klánský has appeared throughout Europe as well as in the United States, China, Japan, Turkey and South Africa. In his native Czech Republic, he is a regular guest at major festivals and concert series including the Prague Spring, Dvořák Prague Festival and the Czech Chamber Music Society. His international appearances have included Berlin’s Konzerthaus as well as festivals in Ankara, Nafplio and Lago Maggiore.

Chamber music has always been central to his artistic life. Together with violinist Jan Mráček and cellist Ivan Vokáč, he is a member of the Lobkowicz Trio. In 2014 the ensemble won both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, and in 2017 received the Czech Chamber Music Society Award. Klánský also regularly collaborates with leading Czech musicians and has maintained long-standing musical partnerships with violinists Jan Mráček and Václav Hudeček.

International competitions played an important role in the early years of his career. His major distinctions include a prize at the International Chopin Competition in Darmstadt, as well as the First Prize and Audience Prize won with the Lobkowicz Trio at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach in 2014.

A distinctive part of Klánský’s artistic work is conducting from the piano, with a particular focus on the piano concertos of Mozart and Beethoven. In 2018 he was awarded Second Prize at the International Hans von Bülow Competition in Meiningen, Germany, in the conducting-from-the-piano category. He studied conducting at the Prague Conservatory and subsequently at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Tomáš Koutník and Leoš Svárovský.

Klánský began playing the piano at the age of five under Růžena Učňová. He later studied with Eva Boguniová at the Prague Conservatory and with Ivan Klánský at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He completed his doctoral studies with a dissertation on the piano works of the Czech composer Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek, whose music remains an important part of his artistic interests.

Teaching forms an equally important part of his professional life. Klánský has taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague since 2018 and completed his habilitation there in 2023. He also teaches at the Prague Conservatory. His international teaching activities have included masterclasses and guest teaching in Spain and Germany, and he regularly works with young musicians through masterclasses and other educational projects.

His discography includes solo and chamber recordings for Praga Digitals, Radioservis, Gramola, Naxos, Rubicon Classics and Octavia Records.
